4 months

Sammy turned 4 months old on September 15th. I feel lame that it took me this long to do her 4 month post. Sammy did a lot of dress eating during her 4 month photos.

Size: Sammy weighed in at 14 pounds 14 ounces at her 4 month checkup and she was 25 inches long. She is wearing 6 month size clothes, or 6-12 month depending on the brand. Because she is so much bigger than Grace was, we actually had to get some new short sleeved 6 month onesies because Grace was well into the cold weather before she wore that size and we are still getting unseasonably warm weather here.

She got shots at her checkup, but took them pretty well. She cried, but was completely fine by the next morning. 

Eating: Sammy mostly eats about every 2 hours. She goes back and forth between eating on just one side and sometimes eating on two. I do find that she sleeps much better after eating on both sides though. She caught a cold and started eating during the night again. 

Sleeping: Although she was "sleeping through the night" pretty early, she has gone back to waking up a few times per night wanting to eat. There was a rough patch when both girls were sick that I was up almost every hour but fortunately that only lasted a few nights. In the past few weeks, she has woken up somewhere around 12 and then again somewhere around 3. Last night she made it all the way to 4:45 so I am hoping that her sleeping through the night has returned. Sammy doesn't really nap well at daycare. She might do 2 short naps, but then typically when we get home she does a nice long nap. She tends to not sleep again until bedtime unless we are in the car or something and then she might fall asleep briefly. 

Likes: Sammy still loves her play mat, but she also really likes her jumper now too.  The baby otter we got in Cali is her favorite stuffy so Grace and I call that her bestie. 

Firsts: Sammy had her first flights in between 3 and 4 months and she did great. She also just started rolling from back to belly.

Dislikes: Although she gets excited when she rolls, when she realizes she is on her belly, she gets a bit frustrated. 

Talents: SMILING. All. The. Time.

We absolutely love her personality and everyone at her daycare says she is just the sweetest baby.

3 months

Little Sammy is 3 months old!

Sammy is still fitting in the same outfits Grace wore for her monthly pics. 

We'll see how long that lasts! 

Size: We didn't have an official weigh in this month, but I think Sammy is somewhere in the range of 14-15 pounds now (according to our scale when I am holding her). She is growing fast! She is wearing 3 month size clothes, or 3-6 month depending on the brand. I already took out the bin of 6 month things because I think she is going to fit them sooner rather than later.

Eating: When she takes a bottle we have started to give her 4 ounces at a time and that is what I am planning to send to daycare. She eats about every two hours when we are home (usually between 6 and 8 times per day). She has started  eating on both sides as opposed to just one side per feeding. Girlfriend is hungry and getting quite chunky.

Sleeping: Sammy is typically sleeping through the night like a champ. She has been waking around 5 or 5:30 lately, but sometimes she sleeps until 7. Her bedtime has gotten a little bit earlier and she will fall asleep for the night around 8 or 8:30 pm. She stays awake about 2 hours in between her morning naps and stays awake for a longer period in the late afternoon/evening. On good days her naps last about 2-3 hours. I am hopeful that once the girls start daycare, they will still nap at the same time in the afternoon.

Likes: Sammy's favorite activity is her play mat, which we call her "gym." She really likes to swat at the animals and hold onto the ring on the bird. She also likes to look at books. She loves it when I sing to her and her face just lights up in a huge smile!

Dislikes: She's pretty happy most of the time and still rarely cries. The most noise she makes is when she is tired and that is more of a moaning noise. We call that the  battle cry of the tired baby.

Talents: Sammy started sitting in her Bumbo this month. She can hold her head up pretty well. She is also really good at smiling.

Firsts: She will have her first flight next week when we fly to see Gem and Grandpa in California!

Sisters

2 months

Sammy turned two months old on July 15th!

I am trying to dress her in the same outfits that Grace wore for her monthly pictures, but I don't know how long that will last because Sammy is not as tiny as Grace was! It's fun to compare them with photos from the same age. They don't look too similar. We think Sammy looks more like John. 

We took her in for her 2 month checkup today. She got some shots and proved to us that she actually can cry! 

Her current stats:

12 lbs 2 oz- 68th percentile

24"- 96th percentile

She is currently wearing size 3 month clothing (3-6 months depending on the brand) and size 1 diapers. I think she is ready for size 2 diapers, but I am trying to use up the size 1's that we have before we move on. 

 She did great at the visit with Dr. Puterpaugh and was all smiles until her shots. 

Since she really doesn't cry that much we were curious how she would react to the shots. She definitely cried and was not pleased with the pricks. Once we were home she was definitely a bit more cranky than usual. We could tell her legs were sore so she did a long nap in her swing followed by some Tylenol and then she was fine. 

Eating: Sammy eats about 9-10 times a day. She has some longer stretches now in between feedings. She still only nurses on one side at a time and averages about 7 minutes per session. She takes bottles well if she stays with Jill of if Mommy goes out and she stays with Daddy.

Sleeping: Sammy is typically asleep for the night by 10 pm. Sometimes she will fall asleep earlier but 10:00 seems to be the sweet spot. She usually sleeps until about 3 or 4, wakes up to eat, then goes back to sleep for a few more hours. We are still swaddling her for her naps and at night, but with her arms out. Consequently, she has discovered her thumb. 

Likes: Sammy's likes musical toys that light up the most. She is starting to "play" when she is laying on her activity mat and she loves to look at her little animal friends that hang from the top. She likes to be in the swing for a little while too.
